Undergraduate Research Assistant (January 2013-June 2015)
In January 2013, I assisted Drs. Kelly Swanson and Hannah Holscher in a research study on fiber by producing and presenting an educational diet class along with three other research assistants to 30 participants. Once the study began, I conducted weekly diet interviews with six of the 30 participants and recorded data from their dietary records. This study gave me the opportunity to use nutrient analysis software including Nutritionist Pro™ and Diet*Calc to analyze dietary records and diet history questionnaires, respectively. With my assistance, the papers below were published in March 2014 and July 2015. I completed my own thesis using data from the fiber study to compare nutrient intake between pregnant and non-pregnant women in June 2015. My research was published in i-ACES (below), an undergraduate research journal, and acted as my final requirement necessary to obtain my Undergraduate Research Certificate.
Undergraduate Research Symposium (April 2014)
In May 2013, I began to pursue an independent research project in my area of interest. I took data from a study that Dr. Holscher conducted with pregnant women and compared it with data used from our fiber study conducted earlier in 2013 using SAS software and Diet*Calc. In April 2014, I designed a poster and presented my research on the Evaluation of Nutrient Intakes of Pregnant and Non-Pregnant Women at the Undergradute Research Symposium at the Illini Union.
ExplorACES (March 2015)
In March 2015, I updated and presented my poster on the Evaluation of Nutrient Intakes of Pregnant and Non-Pregnant Women at ExplorACES in the ACES Library. ExplorACES is a two day event put on to recruit soon-to-be high school graduates and transfer students. Various events are scheduled and displays are shown across the campus to showcase what the College of ACES has to offer.
